What to expect at your Appointments
At an initial consultation, your physiotherapist will start by gathering information about the history of your condition. There will then be a physical assessment looking at your movement, strength and function. This will help formulate a diagnosis so that we can develop a bespoke treatment plan, taking a holistic approach. The initial consultation may last up to 1 hour. Follow-up appointments are 30 minutes.
Most of our appointments are now conducted in person, however we are still able to offer virtual consultations where necessary or appropriate. If you have a scheduled virtual appointment, please be prepared that there may still be a physical element to the assessment and we recommend finding space where you can speak confidentially and be able to stand or move around.
Following your assessment the treatment plan may involve additional follow up appointments combined with a home exercise programme. Depending on your condition and circumstances, treatment may include exercise prescription, activity modification, training load progression, movement re-education, manual therapy, shockwave therapy, or referral to The Pure Practice’s wider team of specialists. This includes strength and conditioning coaches, reformer pilates instructors, podiatry colleagues, nutritionists and massage therapists. If you have a personal trainer or athletics coach, we are always keen to involve them in the process as they will ultimately be managing your post-injury exercise schedule.
Depending on the area to be examined you may be asked to partially undress. If you are a back pain sufferer it is advisable to wear shorts or appropriate underwear, and in the case of females an appropriate bra/sports bra. Generally, it is recommended to bring clothes with you that you feel comfortable moving around in.

Physiotherapy training differs from chiropractic and osteopathy in that the clinical practice for physio is aligned with medical disciplines largely within NHS facilities. Musculoskeletal physio covers all joints, as well as the spine, and promotes physical independence. Post qualification there is some overlap in post graduate training across chiro, osteo and physio.

You can self-refer for an appointment directly via the website or contact us via phone or email with any questions you may have. If you have seen a medical specialist, it would be helpful to have copies of any correspondence from them especially post-operatively.
